Trinity News : July 2008
Scientific Savvy! Year 2 from Lewisham came across to the Summer Hill Campus on Wednesday May 7, and had a science lesson with Dr Chris Acland. Though no doubt familiar with candles from their birthday cakes, the boys discovered other facts concerning candles, as Dr Acland and Mrs Helen Belgum led them through experiments, which illustrated the importance of oxygen in the air we (and the candles!) breathe. There was no doubting the general enthusiasm the boys had for the lesson, as revealed by the discussion which followed the experiments. Who knows what seeds may have been sown in their minds, seeds which may well blossom into some great scientific achievement in years to come! After all, one of our Old Boys, Mr David Warren (’41) invented the Black Box used to record data in aeroplanes!
