SENIOR SCHOOL TOUR OF CHINA 2008 Thirty-nine eager tourists participated in the 6th Senior School Tour of China departing at 10.45 a.m., Saturday, 12th of April, 2008. Our thanks to Dr Peter Stiles and Ms Sue Wymer for assist- ing so professionally on the tour. Our tour included Hong Kong and Shanghai, often referred to as the Pearl of the Orient and more recently, the economic hub of China. We also visited some amazing Chinese gardens in nearby Tongli where the emperor also built the Grand Canal. From Shanghai, we travelled on the bullet train to Hangzhou. Next city was Xian, the home of the 6,000 strong terracotta army, made to protect Emperor Qin in his afterlife. Our last destination was Beijing, where we vis- ited the Great Wall of China. As Peter Ustinov and President Ronald Reagan said during their visits there “Well… it’s a great wall!” We also visited were Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace. Our Beijing stay included visiting our link school, Rendafuzhong School where the students were billeted by local students and have a chance to practise their language skills and make new friends. We anticipate that the boys will recip- rocate the hospitality when the Chinese students visit Trinity Grammar School next year. Our thanks to all of the students, parents and friends who came on the tour and made it one of the best tours ever! We anticipate giving recip- rocal hospitality when the Chinese students visit us next year The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Beijing At the Great Wall of China Terracotta Army, Xian A variety of Chinese food Ms Sue Wymer and Dr Peter Stiles tasting the delicacies Tour group, BP House, Hong Kong Canal Village, Tongli, Southern China TRINITY NEWS 27
