Trinity News : July 2008
L-R: Kenny Carroll (11La), Brendon Bechara (5Ar), Paul Raptis (4Sc) and Nik Miljkovic (11We) present the donation of $2300 to Karin Ferguson Nurse Unit Manager of Clancy Ward at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead. A large contingent from Trinity Basketball came together last Term to help raise funds through the form of a Shoot-a-thon held at the Summer Hill and Strathfield Campuses. Boys from Year 3 through to Year 12 in the Senior, Preparatory and Junior Schools worked hard in gaining personal sponsorship with the proceeds shared between The Children’s Hospital Westmead and the 2008 U.S.A. Basketball Development Tour. The event proved to be a great success with young Trinitarians Nikolas Miljkovic (11We), Kenny Carroll (11La), Brendon Bechara (5Ar) and Paul Raptis (4Sc) making their way over to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to present a cheque to Clancy Ward for $2300. This was well received by Karin Ferguson, the Nursing Unit Manager. The case mix of Clancy Ward is general medical, including liver and renal disease; the ward is also the transplant unit for liver and renal patients and has four dedicated oncology beds. The staff in Clancy Ward care for children requiring hospitalisation for the following conditions • Liver and Gastroenterological conditions including liver transplantation • Renal disease and renal transplantation • Oncology • Haematology • Endocrine • Rheumatology Upon arrival, Hospital representatives Deborah O’Neill Director of Nursing and Michelle Lockley from Public Relations treated the group to an informative tour of the facilities. I would like to thank all boys and staff who were involved in and supported the Shoot-a-thon. A special mention must go to the following students who raised the most money in their combined year groups. Each of those boys received an $80 voucher to Rebel Sport for their wonderful efforts.
