Kapers year 9 & 10 > geography On the 2nd and 5th of May, Year 10 looked at coastal processes and the impact of people on the coastal environments of Long Reef and Collaroy beaches. During the excursion, they used a range of equipment to measure various aspects of the beach at Long Reef, culminating in drawing their own dune profile when they returned to class. right: Rick Scully (10WJ), Dalton Bass (10Fo), Ben Luo (10WH) and Haran Delillo (10 La) measuring the berm at Long Reef Beach On the 30th May, Year 9 explored the local environments of Ashfield and Summer Hill, both north and south of the railway line, investigating the similarities and differences between these four locations, and identifying the factors that give each location its sense of community. year 10 > geography John Dwyer, a British Geography teacher, visited the IB Geography classes and the Year 10 Extension Geography class, to describe a recent expedition, from the North Magnetic Pole to the South Magnetic Pole completed purely by human power (ski, sail and bike). As well as the challenges faced along the way, he also discussed global issues such as “rich vs poor,” climate change, what individuals can do to make a difference and setting and achieving realistic goals. above: Richard Lai (10La), Sanjay Ramaswamy (10Ar) and John Dwyer year 11 > geography A bright vivacious Columbian National who has been in the country just three months, was the guest lecturer at Year 11 Geography on Thursday morning. Paola Polania had prepared a well-researched talk on Bolivia and was aided by a colourful PowerPoint presentation. Paola works for the cleaning company that is contracted by Trinity. Her contribution to learning at the School is a wonderful example of the true sharing community that Trinity is. Trinity is indebted to Mr David Dixon for introducing Paola to our class. right: Paola Polania, Matthew Peverell (11Sc) and Mrs Loraine Inns 16 TRINITY NEWS Klassroom
