Trinity News : September 2013
After many years Track and Field fnally managed to send a team to the USA to compete at a series of two competitions. The twenty fve strong members of the tour departed Sydney Airport on the 10th of April, 2013. The team was made up of Year 8 to Year 11 students and had a variety of event groups from sprinters, middle distance runners, jumpers and throwers. Our frst competition was the Flo Jo International at San Ysidro High School near San Diego. The competition was very strong in the junior years. Our senior boys performed particularly well with a number of trophies and personal best performances. The biggest trophy (nearly 100cm tall) was awarded to the school or club who travelled the longest distance to the Meet so our 12,000km was well and truly enough to secure the trophy. There were many highlights that could be mentioned. However, the opportunity to have a coaching clinic with John Smith, arguably one of the world's best sprint coaches, and also get a chance to watch three of the world's best athletes train, and also chat and take photos with after the session, was a series of priceless opportunities. Our second competition was held just outside of Los Angeles and provided an opportunity for some of our elite athletes to push their athletic limits against some of the best Junior athletes in the World. For many it was a chance to see current Olympic champions in action up close and personal. After just under two weeks of frantic travel, sightseeing, tourist parks, tourist attractions, fast food, fat food, upsized food, shopping plazas, outlet stores, and plenty of fond memories to last a lifetime, we farewelled Los Angeles and returned home to land down-under.
