Trinity News : August 2012
14 TRINITY NEWS BE R EA TI TREE NT TI TR EEN T CROSSROADS HK YR11ENVIRONMENTAL YR11 ENVIRONMENTAL In my university days in Melbourne the tram tickets had little sayings of an uplifting nature printed on them and I remember particularly the five penny ticket (the fare from the City to the University) which has stayed with me all my life, and which, I feel, has a particular relevance to our innovation this year of Service Week. The aphorism in question was The quintessence wisdom is to forget self in the joyous service of others. A bit sentimental, perhaps, but none the less containing a truth which the School aims to instil in our lads. To this end, Service Week was established to replace Activities Week. During Service Week the Middle School and Year 10 students engaged in either Personal Development/Music Workshops, Cadet AFT or for non-Cadets a series of Outdoor Recreation camps. These are experiences are designed for the students to develop both as individuals and in their ability to engage positively with others. It is through this structured programme that students are prepared for effective contribution to service activities in Year 11. All reports suggest the Service Week initiative was a marvellous success. The efforts of our Year 11 students both home and abroad have seen them highly praised for their efforts. The photos on this page tell the stories, but it is noteworthy to mention the links that have been deepened with the Crossroads organisation in Hong Kong, Ti Tree School in Northern Territory and with the Bigga community. Furthermore, the work of our students with the National Parks and Wildlife Service at Middle Head was greatly appreciated. | Ron Ogier SERVICE WEEK TI TR EEN T SERVICE WEEK 18 - 22 JUNE 2012
