Trinity News : July 2010
30 TRINITY NEWS In February, Year 6 at the Preparatory Schol was visited by ‘The Media News Team’ to further our knowledge in our UOI, Media Maters. Ms Cindy Christopher was in charge of this event and had a great knowledge of the topic that we were studying. Cindy set up learning centres for us to inquire into and also displayed interactive activities focused on the media for us to use. She talked to us about the media and how it afects our everyday lives whether it is at home or at schol. Cindy asked general knowledge questions about the media and we were asked to answer them apropriately. We were split up into groups, to inquire into diferent forms of advertising. Cindy helped us by giving us an understanding about the media and the tricks it plays, like showing you a product and not using it while demonstrating on target audiences. We also talked about legal and ilegal advertising, for example, subliminal mesaging. Overal, we al defnitely gained knowledge and learnt many new things about the media and how it afects us. | Joseph Latif (6H) Mr Tony Burke, the Member of Parliament for Watson, visited Trinity Gramar ol in April. He spoke to the Year 6 boys in relation to their UOI “Leadership”. He was elected the Federal Member for Watson in 2004. When Kevin Rud was elected Prime Minister in 2007, Tony Burke was given the Portfolio of Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Mr. Burke gave us an idea of what we could expect to se when visiting Parliament House in Canbera when we went on our excursion. He brought along several display items including a mace, ceremonial clothing and a dispatch box which are al ed in modern day Parliament. Mr. Burke alowed a group of ar 6 boys to come on stage and role play diferent positions thin the Lower House of Parliament. Boys acted the parts of the Prime Minister, Mr. Speaker, Oposition Leader and Sergeant of Arms. The boys al thought this was a lot of fun and it was very entertaining to watch. He then tok questions from students about his role as Member for Watson.
