Trinity News : July 2010
The frst major sporting activity of the year, the House Swimming Championships, was held on February 11. It was a colourful and vocal occasion with House colours, caps, t-shirts and banners all reinforcing the cheering as the various House members urged on their representatives! Highlights of the meet were the entertaining inner-tube races with their highly imaginative swimming strokes, and the selection of the Super Fish, an aquatic equivalent perhaps of the Head Master’s Dash, to fnd the School’s fastest swimmer over a distance of 25 metres, resulting in Nathaniel Romeo (12Sc) carrying off the honours. The relay events, climaxed the afternoon, the concluding event being the much-anticipated staff versus prefects relay (handicapped start!), the Economics Department being the winner! Thanks to all - staff and students - who enabled the day to run smoothly and enjoyably. HOUSE TRACK & FIELD SWIMMING On approaching the SOPAC arena from the east side, the whole vista of the track and feld site is visible, with the grandstand in the background. On the House Track and Field Championship day, Tuesday March 16, it was teeming with activity and colour as the various events were in progress, while in the background were the various House members in their multicoloured glory all cheering on their representatives on the arena. The weather was kind, though perhaps a little hot for the competitors, but the gentle zephyr which blew from time to time was cooling! It was pleasing to witness the enthusiasm and participation among the competitors and supporters when it was called for, while there was also an air of refreshing relaxation which made the day most enjoyable. As usual, the House mascots were in present in force, and their dedicated race concluded the afternoon. Thanks to all who took part: the organisers, the offcials, the competitors and the supporters. The day was a welcome oasis amid the busy-ness of the term.
