Trinity News : November 2008
ORATORY d Viroshan Poologasundram (12St) – Capt of Debating 2008 2008 has proved to be an immensely successful year for Oratory at Trinity. The Internal Oratory standard was high. Manish Poologasundram (7St) won the Junior Divison. James Stancliffe (9La) was winner of the Intermediate section, and Viroshan Poologasundram (12St) won the Senior level of the competition. James Stancliffe continued his success with oratory reaching the State Final of the Legacy Junior Pub- lic Speaking Award. He is one of eight finalists from across NSW. Congratulations, James. Trinity also hosted the Law- rence Campbell Oratory again in 2008. Viroshan represented the School, and although unplaced, did well to present an eight minutes speech with only fifteen minutes preparation on an unseen topic. One of the adjudicators on the night was former Trinity entrant, and ex-student, Mr Caldwell (’03). 2009 will hopefully see the continuing success of Oratory at all levels of competition, and If 2008 is an indicator of suc- cess in Oratory, then next year should also be a great year. Lachlan Stockbridge | Assistant MIC Debating Year 9 ISDA Winners: (l-r) Anthony Jones (Fo), James Stancliffe (La), Daniel Cheng (Fo), Matthew Chua (Fo) and Ms Jennifer Lim (Coach) Debating at Trinity continues with success in the 2008 ISDA Competition. Trinity has three Grand Finalists: the Primary B (winners), Year 9 (Winners) and Senior A (runner-up). An amazing achievement and another two titles added to the two already achieved from previous years. A new six school debating experiment, the FED Competition, began this year, allowing more debaters an opportunity to have a debate. The Year 8 Team secured a place in the Grand Final, but was, unfortunately, defeated by a strong Sydney Boys’ High School team. Trinity also hosted Round 3 of the National Debating Schools Competition in Term 2. This was a success and a prime opportunity for our debaters to see quality debates between teams from across Australia. Debating success continued in Term 3 with three CAS debating teams, the Third III, the 10Bs and the 7Bs, being crowned unofficial Premiers. Trinity came second overall in the competition. Congratulations to Timothy Gadaleta (12Yo) who was selected as Third Speaker of the CAS First III Representative Debating Team.
